Steam take on Joes Tuesday in one-game playoff

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Steam has earned a spot in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League playoff for the first time since 2014. The Steam is the No. 6 seed and will play a one-game playoff against the Hamilton Joes Tuesday, July 26 at Foundation Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.

The Steam (23-19) ended the regular season on a sour note being swept by the Joes in a three-game series. The finale was especially disappointing as a depleted pitching staff suffered a 28-8 dismantling to the Joes on Sunday.

Hamilton (27-15) tied with the Xenia Scouts (27-15) at the top of GLSCL South Division standings but lost the tiebreaker earning the No. 3 seed in the GLSCL playoffs. The winner of the Cincinnati versus Hamilton game will advance to the GLSCL semi-final series against the No. 2 seed Xenia that begins Wednesday at Grady’s Field.

The Lima Locos won the GLSCL North Division and earned the overall No. 1 seed with a league best 28-13 record. Lima awaits the winner of the No. 4 seed Grand Lake Mariners versus No. 5 Licking County Settlers matchup.

The Steam has earned a spot in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League playoffs in nine of its ten previous seasons. Three times the Steam has played in the GLSCL championship round including winning the title in both 2008 and 2009.
