Docs Drop Steam

In a close game, the Cincinnati Steam fell 6-4 to the Dayton Docs Sunday night at Western Hills.

The game began with both teams scoring in the first inning. Back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases in the bottom of the  first. Justin Glass (Cincinnati) hit one to centerfield to drive in Josh Ungerbuehler (Marietta/Roger Bacon) for the first run.   Back–to-back groundouts drove in Jake Madsen (Ohio/Moeller) and Matt Williams (Cincinnati/CHCA), making the score 3-1 after the first inning.

Dayton tied the game in the third, scoring two runs off three singles and two stolen bases. Dayton then scored two more in the fifth and one in the seventh, taking the lead 6-3.

Jason Manis (Tennessee)  scored their last run in the seventh, leading off with a single to right field.

Dayton’ s pitching staff allowed only one more hit for the remainder of the game, holding the score 6-4.

The Steam begins a four-day road trip and will return Friday to take on rival Hamilton.   Friday is the last home game of the regular season and Fan Appreciation night, sponsored by Beacon Orthopaedics.  Friday will also be Honor Flight Night; the Steam will pay tribute to the veterans of World War II and the Korean War.
