Willoughby, Isler, Proctor selected on Day 2 of MLB Draft

Steam products Seth Willoughby (Xavier/ Steam ’12),  Zach Isler (Cincinnati/ Steam ’10-’11), and Jake Proctor (Cincinnati/ Steam ’10-’11) were all selected on Day 2 of the MLB Draft on Tuesday.

Willoughby, a junior pitcher, was selected in the 4th round by the Colorado Rockies following a standout season as the closer for Xavier University.  Willoughby compiled 12 saves and a 1.02 ERA, flashing a fastball in the mid 90s.  He  was slated to be on the 2012 Steam roster, and will be a part of the team as he makes his decision on whether to sign or to return to school for his senior year.

Isler, a junior pitcher, was selected in the 8th round by the Chicago White Sox.  Isler went between closing and starting for the UC baseball team this spring, picking up 5 saves with a 2.78 ERA.  Isler spent two summers with the Steam, making 19 appearances with a 6-1 record, 8 saves, and 2.14 ERA.  Zach holds the career saves record for the Steam with 8, and also ranks 4th in career ERA, 4th in wins, and 6th in strikeouts.

Proctor, a junior outfielder, was selected in the 14th round by the Minnesota Twins.  Proctor excelled for Cincinnati in the spring, hitting .284 with 3 HR and 10 doubles. Proctor, from Oak Hills High School, spent two summers with the Steam, hitting .318 with 3 HR and 11 doubles. Proctor also worked his way up many of the Steam career leaderboards, finishing 3rd in average, 4th in slugging % (.453) , and 7th in stolen bases (14).

The MLB Draft concludes on Wednesday with rounds 15-40.

The Steam open their season this Friday, June 8th, against local rival Hamilton at 7:05 PM.  Hope to see you there!
